Frequently asked questions

How do I draw a sky? ▶

Press or tap any valid starting star — ringed stars show you the legal starting points if you have the option enabled in Settings. Then drag your finger along the constellation, tracing the beams one by one. The line follows your touch in a single continuous stroke. You cannot lift and continue: lifting resets the current attempt gently, so you can try again without losing your progress record.

The puzzle is solved when every beam in the constellation has been drawn exactly once.

What do the different star types mean? ▶

Plain star — the line may arrive and leave in any direction.

Fragile star — the line cannot turn here. It must leave on the beam directly across from the one it arrived on. You may still start or end your line on a fragile star.

Dim star — the moment the line touches it, it lights up and unseals the beam it was holding shut.

Nova core — the line must end here. Plan your route so this is your final destination.

What are the different beam types? ▶

Twin beam — two parallel strands between the same pair of stars. Both must be drawn, which means you must travel this segment twice.

Sealed beam — locked until its dim star is lit. Light the dim star first, then the beam becomes available.

Comet tail — this beam must be the very last beam you draw in the solution.

Fading beam — carries a countdown number. It disappears once that many beams total have been drawn, so you must use it early in your route.

How are stars (ratings) awarded? ▶

Each solved sky earns one, two, or three stars depending on how cleanly you solved it:

Three stars — clean run with no hints and no pull-backs.

Two stars — you used the pull-back (undo) at least once.

One star — you used a hint.

You can replay any sky to improve your rating.

What is the Daily Sky? ▶

A fresh constellation is offered every day. It resets at midnight in your local time, and the hub shows a countdown to the next one. Daily skies draw on the full rule set so they can include any star or beam type from the main chapters.

Your daily results count toward your day streak — solving at least one sky (main or daily) each day keeps it going.

What is the Sky Map? ▶

The Sky Map shows all 120 puzzles laid out visually across the eight chapters. Each constellation tile renders its actual star pattern in miniature so you can see the shape before you open it. Your completion percentage is shown at the top.

How do I unlock Spark Trails? ▶

Spark Trails change the visual style of the line you draw. New trails unlock automatically as you accumulate stars across all your solved skies. Once unlocked, you can switch between them at any time in Settings.

Will my progress be saved if I close the app? ▶

Yes. NoVa STAR saves your puzzle results, star ratings, day streak, unlocked trails, and visual settings locally on your device. They persist across app restarts. The app plays entirely offline — no internet connection is needed.

What data does NoVa STAR collect? ▶

Please refer to our Privacy Policy for the full details. In short: the app works entirely on your device and does not gather personal information.

The app is stuck or behaving unexpectedly — what should I do? ▶

Force-close the app and reopen it — that resolves most transient issues. If the problem continues, try restarting your device. If you still experience problems after that, contact us using the details below and describe what happened. We will look into it promptly.
